There are all sorts of mediums that an artist can use assist you with creating effects and augmenting your creations. Check out how these mediums work.
Did you know that there are mediums you can use with your watercolours? Well there isn't quite the variety as acrylics or oils, those available will help give that little extra something you might have been looking for.
Granulation medium increases granulation, giving colours that usually have a smooth wash a mottled appearance and enhancing colours that are already granulated.
Ox Gall Liquid is a wetting agent used to improve the flow of watercolours and helps create uniform washes. This can also be used on heavy sized paper to reduce surface tension. The brand Qor makes a synthetic version of this medium.
Lift aid or lifting preparation makes colour easier to remove off the paper and can be used before painting or between layers.
Making Fluid also known as liquid frisket, drawing gum and other names is a more commonly known medium. This is used to mask off areas where you don't want paint.Take it off as soon as you are done. While i can't 100% guarantee this if you can clean your brush off immediately after use with water you should be able to get it off.
Lastly gum Arabic is used in the making of most watercolours and can be added in to increase transparency and gloss. Also controls spread of wet paint, reduces staining and slows drying.
